Acrylate-based slurry development and evaluation for digital light processing of zirconia ceramics
Tijdschriftbijdrage - e-publicatie
Korte inhoud:The critical steps to produce high-quality zirconia (ZrO2) ceramics using digital light processing (DLP) are slurry development and tailoring the printing parameters and the post-processing. This paper provides a comprehensive evaluation of experimentally developed slurries containing 3Y-TZP powder, acrylate monomers, diluents, photoinitiator, dispersant and surface energy-reducing agent for DLP of 3Y-TZP, along with a performance assessment of as-printed and as-sintered ZrO2 ceramics. The viscosity, curing behaviour, stability and thermal debinding characteristics of acrylate-based ZrO2 slurries were assessed. A speedmixed acrylate-based slurry with 48 vol% 3Y-TZP powder allowed to obtain crack-free and nearly fully dense 3Y-TZP parts. The printed ceramics revealed an anisotropic shrinkage during sintering, which was highest along the building direction (25.2 ± 0.3 %) and a decreased printing layer thickness of 15 µm improved the sintered bending strength. The surface roughness varied from 0.35 ± 0.11 µm in plane to 5.77 ± 0.35 µm along the building direction.
