Recovering Bulk Gold From Scrap Electronics to Synthesize Gold Colloids

Tijdschriftbijdrage - Tijdschriftartikel

We report the synthesis of starch stabilized gold colloids starting from bulk gold being recovered from scrap electronics such as integrated circuits or chips. The bulk gold was rinsed with concentrated nitric acid and subsequently dissolved in aqua regia. After the evaporation of the acidic solution, the yellow gold salt was dissolved in demineralized water and characterized by UV/Vis spectroscopy. Ruby red gold sols were prepared by adding starch to the chloride ligand stabilized gold(III) solution and reduced by adding trisodiumcitrate. The gold sols were characterized with UV/Vis spectroscopy.
