The European Economic Area and State aid

Korte inhoud:In this contribution, we look at the Agreement on the European Economic Area and the EU State aid rules that are also applicable in Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway due to that Agreement. Over the years, the EFTA Surveillance Authority has established a well developed State aid policy that mirrors that of the European Commission. Also the EFTA Court has given quite a few State aid judgments. In the first three chapters of this contribution we briefly introduce the EEA Agreement (I) and the two EEA institutional structures (II and III). In chapter IV, we describe the EEA State aid rules and briefly analyse the State aid judgments of the EFTA Court, rendered in 2012. We conclude with some general remarks (V).
