High capacity batteries and electric double layer capacitors: standards for characterization and use

International standardization work on advanced power and
energy storage devices for electrically propelled vehicles, such
as lithium ion batteries and electric double-layer capacitors, is
now being performed on several levels focusing on both
performance and safety issues. This paper gives an overview
of current activity in the field, highlighting the approaches
taken by respectively IEC and ISO and the underlying
differences.
