The Use of the E-Portfolio and Virtual Tutorials in Spanish Foreign Language Teaching to Belgian Postgraduate Students

Boek - Dissertatie

In the region of Flanders, the number of Spanish as a second language learners has risen significantly since 2006 and so have the amount of students interested in giving Spanish classes. However, we can observe that although their training has been done in Spanish, upon entering the SLO, some students still have not reached the linguistic and pragmatic level expected from a Spanish foreign language (henceforth ELE) teacher. To help solve this problem, we propose a research project with the following aims: (1) identify the mistakes made by this group of students; (2) design, apply and evaluate a set of virtual tutorials and an e-portfolio model for treating their principle linguistic shortages and (3) to verify the effects these virtual tutorials and the use of the e-portfolio have on the skills of oral and written expression in Spanish from the participants. This research procedure will allow us to identify the most recurring linguistic gaps the students have, as well as contributing to recent studies on the influence of electronic portfolios and virtual tutorials in the ELE student´s linguistic competence. First we will briefly present the theoretical frame guiding our research proposal. Following that, we will go on to methodology, where we will describe hypotheses, the profile of the participants, and the method for data analysis. We will finalize with the bibliography necessary for this study development.
