Self-Affine Surface Roughness of Chemically and Thermally Cleaned Ge(100) Surfaces KU Leuven
An approach is presented to apply fractal concepts (by analyzing scanning length-dependent scanning tunneling microscopy measurements) to the characterization of semiconductor surfaces exposed to various, technologically relevant, cleaning processes. In particular, we have investigated the surface morphology and chemical composition of Ge(100) surfaces after cleaning in an aqueous HF solution and vacuum annealing. The roughness exponent alpha, a ...
Mapping surface segregation of single-atom Pt dispersed in M surfaces (M = Cu, Ag, Au, Ni, Pd, Co, Rh and Ir) under hydrogen pressure at various temperatures Vrije Universiteit Brussel
Single-atom alloys (SAAs) are emerging materials containing isolated metal atoms dispersed on host metal surfaces, exhibiting unique reactivity compared with the corresponding monometallic counterparts. However, the stability of the isolated atoms in the host metal has hardly been studied, although, metal segregation has been commonly observed in bimetallic nanoparticles under reaction conditions. In this work we focus on single-atom Pt ...
Positron surface state as a spectroscopic probe for characterizing surfaces of topological insulator materials Universiteit Antwerpen
Topological insulators are attracting considerable interest due to their potential for technological applications and as platforms for exploring wide-ranging fundamental science questions. In order to exploit, fine-tune, control, and manipulate the topological surface states, spectroscopic tools which can effectively probe their properties are of key importance. Here, we demonstrate that positrons provide a sensitive probe for topological states ...
Low-Temperature Scanning Tunneling Microscopy of Ring-Like Surface Electronic Structures Around Co Islands on InAs(110) Surfaces KU Leuven
We report on the experimental observation by scanning tunneling microscopy at low temperature of ring-like features that appear around Co metal islands deposited on a clean (110) oriented surface of cleaved p-type InAs crystals. These features are visible in spectroscopic images within a certain range of negative tunneling bias voltages due to the presence of a negative differential conductance in the current-voltage dependence. A theoretical ...
