L'âme-miroir: al-Ghazâlî entre philosophie et mysticisme KU Leuven
In several of his works al-Ghazâlî uses the image of the soul as mirror. The most relevant texts in this respect are discussed and it is shown that al-Ghazâlî somehow combines elements taken from philosophy with other taken from mysticism.
Al-Ghazâlî's Mîzân al-‘Amal: An Ethical Summa Based on Ibn Sînâ and al-Râghib al-Isfahânî KU Leuven
Al-Ghazâlî's ethical work, Mîzân al-'amal, is largely based extracts from two works of Ibn Sînâ (psychological and ethical), but, above all, on the Kitâb al-dharî'a of al-Râghib al-Isfahânî. A detailed survey of the use of these sources is given, and attention is also paid to the few sections which seem to be original.
Searching the man behind the tag: privacy implications of RFID technology KU Leuven
The emergence of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology provides the potential for vast and varied applications, bringing with it both promise and peril. RFID tags used as the medium for the collection and transmission of personal data, as well as tracing devices for the location of natural persons, open a Pandora’s box regarding the privacy rights of individuals. The goal of this paper is to present the main privacy threats that arise ...
Epitaxial (001) Ge on Crystalline Oxide Grown on (001) Si KU Leuven
Fully epitaxial germanium-on-insulator structures have been grown for the first time on (001) Si substrates by using a perovskite oxide template. Detailed transmission electron microscopy analysis revealed that a two-temperature growth procedure is required in order to avoid three-dimensional island growth and to obtain Continuous and flat Ge films. The interface between the oxide and Ge is fully crystalline and atomically sharp. A high density ...
From analogue to digital terrestrial television : how to ensure universal access after the analogue switch-off? Universiteit Gent
When talking about the digital age, the digitisation process of the television landscape catches the eye. Dependent on the specific characteristics (geography, existing infrastructure) of each Member State, the transformation from analogue to digital television in Europe has been initiated from one of the traditional transmission channels (terrestrial, satellite or cable). Digitisation has now reached a crucial phase, i.e. the replacement of the ...
Switchable reflector in the Panamanian tortoise beetle Charidotella egregia (Chrysomelidae: Cassidinae) Plantentuin Meise / Agentschap Plantentuin Meise
The tortoise beetle Charidotella egregia is able to modify the structural color of its cuticle reversibly, when disturbed by stressful external events. After field observations, measurements of the optical properties in the two main stable color states and scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope investigations, a physical mechanism is proposed to explain the color switching of this insect. Is is shown that the gold ...
The status of HIV-1 resistance to antiretroviral drugs in sub-Saharan Africa KU Leuven
Access to highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) for persons infected with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa has greatly improved over the past few years. However, data on long-term clinical outcomes of Africans receiving HAART, patterns of HIV resistance to antiretroviral drugs and implications of HIV type-1 (HIV-1) subtype diversity in Africa for resistance, are limited. In resource-limited settings, concerns have been raised that deficiencies ...
