Trauma beyond the biomedical paradigm: avenues for a subject-oriented and contextual approach of trauma Ghent University
In recent years the hegemonic, biomedical approach of psychich trauma, which strongly focuses on the individual, and is based upon a mechanical idea of trauma, has been criticized strongly. Via theoretical studies, this project aims at developing an alternative approach that is both subject-oriented and contextual. Possibilities and implications of the alternative approach will be explored.

Student disengagement as a reaction to opportunity structure: A contextual approach. Ghent University
First, we investigate the relative impact of components of the opportunity structure in the school, neighborhood, and educational system on disengagement. Secondly, we whether students' perceived control over educational matters acts as a mediator. For the purposes of this research project, we use data from the international Cities project which is gathered in 12 major cities around the world.
First and second generation migrants' religiosity in Europe: individual and contextual effects Ghent University
This project aims at conducting research into (1) intergenerational transmission of migrants' religiosity. We will address (2) the psychological benefits of religion to migrants, with discrimination being one of the major influences. These aspects will be studied examining (3) large-scale contextual effects. The subjects of this research project are first and second generation migrants in Europe.

Beyond vision: the influence of auditory and contextual representations on visual working memory Ghent University
Until recently, it was assumed that information that is temporarily stored in working memory is represented in a visual or auditory format. Recent research has given rise to doubt such an interpretation, because abstract categorical, as well as other non-relevant objectproperties are stored as well. The current project will study how non-visual information plays a role in visual working memory.
