Europol and its growing alliance with private parties
Tijdschriftbijdrage - Tijdschriftartikel
Korte inhoud:Until now, Europol has not been generally allowed to have direct contacts with private parties, except through the EU Internet Referral Unit (IRU), established in 2015 and part of Europol’s European Counter Terrorism Centre, inter alia for notice and take-down procedures. The 2022 Regulation positions Europol as an EU hub to receive multi-jurisdictional data sets directly from private parties, which the Agency may pre-process in view of dispatching towards the relevant EU member state jurisdiction(s). In specific instances, ie in order to prevent the dissemination of terrorist or violent extremist content or child sexual abuse material, Europol is granted wider possibilities in directly working with private parties.
