Incorporation of thermo-resistant and/or pressure-resistant organisms in materials T- STOP Universiteit Gent
Specific bacteria were identified surviving material processing temperatures. Inactive spores of the Bacillus cluster should be selected for processing in a range of 100 – 305°C. This novel and unique feature enables material design that requires high processing temperatures such as in the field of polymers and metals. During processing, the inactive forms of the bacteria are encapsulated in a continuous phase, defined as the matrix. Possible applications: in packaging providing a barrier feature, preferably an oxygen or carbon dioxide barrier
